Saturday, March 3, 2001 - Brit Awards, Graham Norton and Sunderland

Salut!

Hello again! I have been living it up with the stars this week and have appeared on television twice. I was honoured to be asked to present a Brit Award to singer Robbie Williams, who won three gongs at the star-studded bash in London. I gave Robbie the prize for best single.

What an amazing night of entertainment, and it was a thrill to mix with some of my musical heroes. One of my favourite bands is U2, and I was lucky enough to be at one of their private performances in Cannes a while ago. So it was great to see Bono and the guys again at the ceremony this week and catch up with them.

Another person I was delighted to meet for the first time was the actor Samuel L Jackson. He is someone I admire and it was great to shake his hands, as he too was a guest at the Brits.

My other big TV night was an appearance on the Graham Norton show. We really hit it off and I had such a good laugh chatting to him, as you will have seen if you tuned in on Friday night.

Now that the fun is out of the way, it is down to the serious business of looking forward to Monday's tough trip to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland. We need a win to help us pull clear of the relegation zone, and it promises to be a tough match.

At least English football is on a high at the moment, after the national team beat Spain 3-0 in Sven Goran Eriksson's first match in charge, at our own Villa Park on Wednesday.

It was a very encouraging performance, especially from some of the younger players who were given their chance, and it was nice to see Villa's David James keep a clean sheet in the first half.

The result will give morale a much-needed boost ahead of two important World Cup qualifiers for England.

I'll sit back and keep an eye on the other games this weekend, so that we know exactly what is expected of us on Monday night.

Keep up your good support, it is much appreciated!

A bientôt
