Wednesday, August 29, Busy times

Salut!

It has been a very busy time recently, hence the infrequent updates, and I hope you will bear with me. I would firstly like to thank so many of you for your emails of support in what is a very difficult time. I am unable to discuss intricacies, but I would urge those of you who have emailed with criticism not to jump to conclusions or make wild speculations. With all that is going on, I am a footballer and I just want to play football. Football is my love, my passion, and the integrity of the game is what drives me every day.

Speaking of which, I am still ecstatic about our wonderful victory against Basle last Tuesday. It was a great game, and the best thing is that Villa has a place in the UEFA Cup. I can understand the gaffer's sentiments in that it has slightly impeded our pre-season training, but it has been well worth it for a place in Europe.

It was also great to play the entire game, and as a team we came together well. A 4-1 victory is brilliant, and I was pleased to score a goal and also help to set up goals for Darius and Pablo. It was excellent to see Pablo make it a double, and I look forward to seeing more good action from him after a tough start last season.

Before Basle it was the Tottenham game on the Saturday at White Hart Lane, and needless to say, I was hugely grateful for the welcome that the Spur's fans gave to me. Similar to the match in April, it was an emotional day for me because the Tottenham supporters and the Club are very dear to me. Thank you once again.

On Sunday it was the match against Manchester United, and a 1-1 draw is a creditable result against such a top team, although obviously the intention is always to win. Liverpool on Saturday week should be a tough challenge, but I believe we have what it takes to succeed.

Enjoy the week!

A bientôt,

David Ginola.
