Friday, September 28, UEFA Cup Exit

It is important to quickly put behind us the disappointment of this week's UEFA Cup exit at the first hurdle. Having worked so hard to get into the competition proper via the Inter Toto Cup, it is a pity that we failed to have a decent run in Europe.

As the gaffer John Gregory said, the tie was lost in the first leg, when Varteks scored three important away goals to claim a surprise 3-2 victory. It meant we went to Croatia needing to win 2-0, but on the night we managed to score only one goal and it was not enough.

I was very pleased to get a start, and I did my best although I was playing as an out and out striker, which is not my natural position. We must make up for the disappointment by bouncing back with a league victory over Blackburn on Sunday.

If we claim all three points, and other results go our way this weekend, we could climb into third spot in the Premiership, which would be a great position in these early stages.

But it will not be an easy game. Graeme Souness is a good manager and his Blackburn team are determined to remain in the Premier League after gaining promotion last season.

So keep up your good support!

A bientôt,

David Ginola.
