Wednesday, July 31, Returning to England

Salut!

We are nudging ever closer to another new football season and although I am enjoying an extended break in the south of France, I am still optimistic that I shall be returning to England to play for another year.

I have been carrying out my own pre-season training programme by training with a private coach, so I shall be ready if and when the call comes. There have been one or two enquiries about me, but no firm offers that I was prepared to take. However I am still fiercely hungry to continue my playing career, preferably in the English Premiership, or failing that, an ambitious first division outfit.

The summer has been quieter than many people expected as football clubs hold on to their money in a somewhat delicate financial climate. That of course has not stopped Manchester United breaking the British transfer record to take Rio Ferdinand from Leeds, and surely his career will continue to blossom under Sir Alex Ferguson, even if that means losing the chance to work with new Leeds manager Terry Venables.

United's blue rivals, Manchester City, have been busy too, and my old boss Kevin Keegan splashed out on my fellow Frenchman Nicolas Anelka and I wish him every success in his new challenge.

A bientôt,

David Ginola.
