Thursday, March 13,
George Best
Salut!
I was back on Sky Sports this week watching Newcastle play
Inter Milan in the champions League. That is what football
is all about, two top teams slugging it out in Europe and
producing thrilling, top quality football. It is good to see
my old team mate Alan Shearer still banging in the goals -
it seems that retiring from international football was the
best think he could have done from a Toon point of view.
It was fantastic to work alongside George Best, who was also
on the programme. George is my kind of guy and I felt we had
a great rapport. I wish I'd been around to watch him when
he was playing in his heyday as he was one of the best the
game has ever seen, and a real entertainer. He has some great
opinions on the game, and hopefully I shall be working with
him again in the near future.
I must give a mention to press reports last week which claimed
that I pulled out of BBC's Celebrity Fame Academy. The reality
is that I was really looking forward to appearing on the show
and helping raise money for Comic Relief. However, I went
skiing the week before and came down with one of the worst
bouts of flu I ever had. I was confined to bed and could hardly
move for a few days, let alone sing. Unfortunately it is just
one of those things, but I wish the guys at Comic Relief huge
success in raising loads of money.
I will be back in London on Saturday as a guest of Sky's Soccer
Saturday, where we will be commentating on Tottenham v Liverpool
- come on you Spurs! In the evening I will be attending The
Royal Ballet performance of Sleeping Beauty in association
with Audi UK at the Royal Opera House, which I am really looking
forward to.
Hope yours is a good weekend too!
A bientôt,
David Ginola.
