Friday, May 2, What a week it has been ...

Salut!

On Monday I attended my first RADA class at the Old Vic Theatre. I must admit I was quite nervous, but I am determined to do my best. Things went well, and in the evening I attended the UK film premiere of 'Hope Springs' starring Colin Firth, Minnie Driver and Heather Graham at Odeon West End in Leicester Square.

It was a good film, and the cast were very charming. I proceeded to the after party at Asia de Cuba which was pleasant, apart from the fact that I was hounded by an extremely drunk young female journalist from the Daily Mail, who continually badgered me with questions about my private life. I told her to look at herself, being so drunk, before asking me anything, and left it at that.

On Tuesday I again went to class, where I continued exercises which focused on learning about myself. In the morning I did an interview with Nina Nanar from ITN, which you may have seen on the lunchtime and 6pm news bulletins. In the evening my friend and former Villa team mate Hassan Kachloul and I went out for a meal. It was nice to catch up with Hassan, although I was very sad to hear of the poor health of my former boss Doug Ellis.

On Wednesday morning it was back to class, but this time at RADA school itself. I was perturbed going to class, because of the malicious Daily Mail article of that day, claiming I had called all women in England 'shameless drunks'. As if! The female journalist of Monday evening had blatantly fabricated her article, and made a generality of my comments on her own drinking. Since when does one desperate person speak for the nation.

On Thursday it was back to class at RADA, and I am slowly getting into the swing of things, but it's going to be a long long shot before I can stand in front of an audience and play Hamlet! To be or not to be - zat iz ze question… In the afternoon I was very distressed by a call from my mother who said that she had an insistent Daily Mail journalist on her doorstep harassing her with questions. The same journalist then proceeded to try and interrogate a lot of my friends and people who live in my village. It's quite upsetting when you think about the lengths some newspapers will go to make a buck or two. Sad.

Anyway, I've got lots to read, and lots to do for when I go back to class, so I'll be seeing you soon.

Enjoy the weekend!

A bientôt,

David Ginola.
